IL 34 The Model (Das Modell)

IL Issue 34, entitled “Das Modell” (The Model), is an important publication in the series of communications from the Institute for Lightweight Structures (IL) at the University of Stuttgart. This issue is based on the dissertation by Jos Tomlow, which was written in 1989 under the supervision of Frei Otto and Rainer Graefe.

The second reviewer was Jürgen Joedicke. The work is dedicated to the reconstruction of Antoni Gaudí's hanging model for the church of Colònia Güell near Barcelona. Gaudí used this model to develop the complex vault structures of the church, of which only the crypt was ultimately realized.
